Personal statement:

I am an ambitious, positive, young person looking for a role in the travel industry. I have 14 months of experience travelling in 42 different countries around the world. I now want help other people to experience different places and cultures using the valuable knowledge I have obtained.

At the age of 19, I first started travelling for eight months by myself. I started off in Berlin and made my way through Eastern Europe to Russia. In Russia, I travelled on the Tran-Siberian Railway stopping of at cities on the way until I arrived in Vladivostok. I then visited South Korea, Japan, and Taiwan, before heading to South East Asia. Before heading home, I stopped off in China for a month.

My next trip started off in Cancun, Mexico and I headed south stopping at every country in Central America. In this part of the trip, I spent five weeks doing my PADI DiveMaster internship, working with tourists at a dive resort whilst I earnt my professional diving qualification. I then headed to South America for the remainder of my trip finishing in Rio de Janeiro.

My personal strengths include; working with customers, working in a team or by myself, very good self-organisation skills and the ability to use different computer software programs.

Job description: Working with tourists who are learning to dive, improving their diving skills or just want a taste of the local dive sites. Assisting instructors by helping to teach divers new skills. Taking qualified divers on dives to show them the best aquatic life around the island and ensuring they are safe at all times. Being a part of the boat crew, which includes; tying down the boat, making sure the dive site is safe, eliminating health and safety hazards on board and making sure we have all equipment to ensure the customers' dives go to plan. Socialising with the potential customers and encouraging them to dive at our dive centre and persuading existing customers to carry on learning and improving their diving skills. Improving my Diving skills to become a role model to students and customers.

Over the course of the week, I did a variety of tasks in the shop. I believe that I can use this experience to do the same or similar roles in future roles.  I completed the following tasks; Shelving, tidying, section organising, merchandising, stock pricing, talking to customers over the phone, training on phoenix stock system, using the internet helping customers in the shop.

At the end of the work experience, my supervisor assessed my overall success. I was judged as being excellent in the following criteria; appropriate attire, ability to follow instructions, punctuality, and attendance at work. I also got very good in the following; interest in the work, awareness of branch/office practices, quality of agreed/assigned work, practical skills, acceptance of feedback and adaptability.
